One of the central ideas that can serve as an overarching framework for many of the needs of reform in our time may be expressed in this concise statement:
(A revival through religion can come about only by reviving its truths, forming those who will carry them, and having a real setting in which those bearers apply the truths of religion.
Reviving the truths of religion and renewing its meanings require six things:
1) Establishing its proofs.
2) Placing its central concerns at the center—that is, giving priority to its priorities.
3) Realizing its objectives.
4) Distinguishing it from other religions and ideas.
5) Removing the veils that prevent a sound understanding of it.
6) Bringing into being a practical example that applies it, lives and engages with its truths, calls people to it, and defends it.
As for forming its bearers, this requires exceptional education and spiritual formation upon the prophetic way. Through it, the Muslim is formed according to the qualities of reformers that Allah has explained in His Book and upon which His prophets raised their companions and disciples.
As for the bearers applying the truths of religion to reality, this can be complete only through six things:
1) Observing the divine patterns that govern events.
2) Understanding historical contexts.
3) Taking the necessary practical means.
4) Acquiring a deep understanding of reality.
5) Exercising wisdom in bringing together the truths of religion and engaging people well through them.
6) Using these truths to resist what opposes and contradicts them.)
